'Brisingr', Boring?

Today I read an article by The Salt Lake Tribune saying Christopher Paolini's new book, Brisingr, was boring. Many people I have seen reading the book said it is awesome and just as good as the first one, so I wanted to see why The Salt Lake Tribune thought it was so bad. Here is the article, Books: 'Brisingr' bores with its meandering. They say that the book has no meaning and that it just goes on and on. They say, "Paolini simply doesn't know when to stop". I have read the first to books in what was originally suppose to be a trilogy and I liked them alot, but I really wanna know if the book is worth the price. In the article, they say that much of the book doesn't advance the story or develop the characters. I am going to make a poll and ask people who have the read the book if it was good and worth the money. The article isn't all negative. At the end, they say that the last 50 pages make a great riveting ending and it is worth the 700 page wait.

the book was awesome! The "700 page wait" was really good. It did get a little dull at times, but all books have periods where they are a little boring... Just look at Animal Dreams, the whole thing was boring.

Boring! Could have left out 300 pages and finish the series...

It was boring. I agree that the ending was exciting and satisfying, but neither the characters nor the story were developed much. I personally believe that Paolini stretched out the last book so that he can get more money out of the series.

Tell me, how do you feel about reading of these basic subjects? Roran bashed this guy in the head with his hammer, then jumped around and smashed the face in of another soldier. Screaming and smashing ensues for 50 pages or so before he is finished and then questions whether or not killing so many people affects his character.

Oh yes, and then the thrilling C-span like chapters with Eragon sitting in the dwarf chambers. I think I even recall him thinking about how bored he was with the proceedings. Tell me, if your character is getting bored and frustrated by the goings on in your story, how do you expect your readers to suffer though?

Now that you mention it, I did have to skip 30 pages in the book at points to keep myself interested. Hmmm. I don't entirely agree with "It's boring.", but it did drag its feet a bit. Not as bad as Tolkien. Which, I admit, may have been ruined for me because I saw the movie first.
Whatever. Ramble ramble ramble ramble. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Some scenes did drag a little, but I would not call the book boring. I would call it one with more description, deep thinking, and self evaluation. This book deals more in politics than Eragon and Eldest, but honestly? There were boring times in the Harry Potter series. The Twilight series I was forced to suffer through was repetition the entire time. If you are looking for solid action, go to the movie theater and see something like Iron Man II or the Clash of the Titans. Every series has boring parts.

I have found reading Brisingr a complete chore, mundane and boring. I believe Paolini displays real immaturity as a writer. Simply splashing hundreds upon hundreds of pages with mindlessly tedious descriptions upon everything and everyone, is just boring!

I agree with the comment

'Paolini stretched out the last book so that he can get more money out of the series.'

It really does seem like alot of what's written is just totally pointless! The section with the dwarf clans spans the length of one boring book in itself. A massive disappointment in the Eragon series, his storytelling seems to have gone out the window and been replaced by a somewhat lost a writers blocked imagination, that can only lay words which in no way develop the story but moreover tiresomely questions and self-reflects the character. Take this style for all the characters and it's just a chore to read.

I hope the last book doesn't bear the same qualities as it really seems that his 'mommy and daddy' are probably enjoying the money too much; this being evident in his drudgery of a writing style.
